Touch therapy for children with autism, complex medical needs and ADHD
The Touch Therapy Programme has been developed by Louise Davies, Director of The Wellbeing Centre here in Whitchurch. We are proud to announce that the programme has been accredited by the Federation of Holistic Therapists.
Working with Oshi’s World
We are reaching out into the community to offer help and support to families. Our aim is to help parents who have children with disabilities and or complex medical needs.
The programme is being rolled out with Oshi’s World based in the Vale of Glamorgan. It is currently being provided as an outreach therapy in the comfort of a child’s home.
The course has been adapted from our Infant Massage & Reflexology Programme, in order to be suitable for children with additional needs. It also provides ease of use and content that is suitable for your child.
Massage for a child with complex medical needs
Massage therapy can be used as a specialised tangible method for helping children who are living with any type of disability. Many people are not aware of the multiple benefits massage can provide. Especially for children living with chronic pain, discomfort, constipation, rigid muscles, nerve stress and any condition that manifests from medical conditions. It can also help to reduce stress.
Massage can be beneficial for a child and a parent and carer. Abdominal massage is extremely beneficial to lessening the amount of chronic constipation, trapped gases, and bloating associated with stagnant bowels.
Massage has proven to be an effective method in reducing the amount of taut, stiff, and tense muscles, by lubricating and creating more fluidity in the body. Massage used in conjunction with range of motion techniques. It has shown to provide a greater opportunity to increase mobility in children who have contractures and scar tissue from surgeries.
The most important benefit of massage is to reduce reduce the amount of nerve stress by engaging the nervous and endocrine systems. These are in charge of producing important chemicals that improve and maintain homeostasis.
Reflexology for autism, complex needs and ADHD
Reflexology for autism, complex needs and ADHD can help to calm, relax, release tension, anxiety, improve their sleep and focus.
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology can benefit children and adults. It is a gentle, non invasive therapy that encourages the body to balance and heal itself. Reflexology involves applying finger and thumb pressure to specific points on the feet. It can be enjoyed for relaxation purposes and to help the management stress related issues.
Helping your child relax
Communication, patience and building a great relationship is important between the therapist you choose and your child. If you are worried they might not be able to sit still, it’s OK for your child to do anything they like to help them relax. Once they are comfortable they will really enjoy it and need less distraction to sit and participate.
The main benefits of reflexology is promoting deep relaxation. This may help with releasing tension, calming, reduce stress and stress hormones, improve circulation, concentration and behaviour, ease over stimulation and aid sleep.
How can we help?
We are passionate about helping others and their families through what can be very stressful times. We understand each child and their needs are different. Also, each day can sometimes be unpredictable and that over stimulation, changes in routine and unfamiliarity can cause anxiety and distress. We are very flexible with our approach and will adapt the treatment to suit the child’s individual needs.
Where does it take place?
The Programme has been designed to provide a bespoke and adaptable treatment. We are able to deliver in the comfort of your own home or in a group setting. A tranquil environment is preferred to achieve optimum results.
