The Infant Massage and Reflexology Programme for instructors is a specialist programme developed by practitioner, Louise Davies. Louise is a Complementary Therapist graduating from Cardiff Metropolitan University with a BSc (hons) in Complementary Healthcare.
Louise developed the programme after attending a baby massage training course. She combined both baby massage and baby reflexology to allow therapists to bring the skill of massage and reflexology together.
What’s unique about our infant massage and reflexology programme?
As well as developing a massage routine, the programme includes a “first aid kit” for common ailments, such as teething, earache and asthma. On this course, you will be taught methods in both massage and reflexology for each ailment. This will provide the opportunity to select which is more appropriate in a situation and what the child prefers.
Starting a baby and toddler out in life with the basic skills learnt in the programme is a positive start. It gives both the child and the parents a wonderful way of naturally helping with the challenging issues of development at each stage. It also promotes a healthy reliance on hands-on techniques and self care that should carry on into life.
What will you learn?
On this programme you will learn how to work with babies and children of any age. There will be a lot of practical help with the particular skills needed to work with the little ones and their parents. On this course you will then be able to work on a 1:1 basis or run small classes or workshops of your own.
The morning focuses on the benefits of touch. The do’s and don’ts, how to prepare the area, basic massage techniques and to develop a massage routine. Followed by the benefits of reflexology and how reflexology works, reflexology points and techniques.
The afternoon will be spent working through the “first aid kit” of working with common ailments such as colic, teething and sleep. The day will end with details on how the case studies are carried out and what you need to include for accreditation. Contraindications will also be covered.
Students will be required to complete an in class assessment. You will be required to complete two case studies after the training and to be submitted within two months of attendance.
You will also need to bring along a weighted doll. These can be purchased through https://www.touchneeds.com/ or Rogel instructor dolls are often found on second hand selling sites such as Ebay. Alternatively, any doll approx 60cm long with movable limbs – including arms, legs and shoulders, ideally have open hands and feet also.
Who is this course suitable for?
As well as qualified bodywork therapists, the infant massage and reflexology course is open to healthcare professionals. These are defined as: a doctor of medicine or osteopathy, podiatrist, dentist, chiropractor, clinical psychologist, optometrist, nurse practitioner, or nurse-midwife who all practice within the scope of their qualifications.
